As leader of James Brown band, The JBs, Wesley was described as the world's most famous sideman, orchestrating the sinuous grooves and contributing the bold, surgically precise solos that defined the language of funk. He was seminal in the creation of many of Brown classic his hits, such as Big Payback, Pass the Peas, and Say it Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud. Others include Parliament Funkadelic's P-Funk and Bootsy Collins' Stretching Out.
